We left Narita, Tokyo this morning at 10:30. And almost 72 hours after we started out at home (20 hours of which was spent in flight), we arrived safely in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam at 2:30 p.m. local time and quickly found our way through passport control, on to baggage claim, through customs, and then to our hotel, the “Oscar Siagon.” Our flight was comfortable (we had exit row seats with lots of leg room and slept most of the way) and the taxi ride to the hotel was hot, but pleasant. Our taxi driver was young and very friendly, and did well maneuvering around the bazillion mopeds and scooters. There are very few traffic lights. They all seem to use their horns instead.
The hotel is beautiful. We were escorted to our room, given a short explanation of how things worked, and shortly thereafter we were out like a light. We slept a couple hours and then headed out to get some things at a local grocery store.
We received paperwork from our Vietnam coordinators. We are to meet them tomorrow morning in the lobby at 6:00 a.m. We will travel 3 hours to Vinh Long, where we will visit the orphanage and receive Dylan. Tomorrow afternoon we will participate in the “Giving & Receiving” ceremony—after which we will officially be recognized as Dylan’s adoptive parents under Vietnamese law. It’s going to be a BIG day!
